LEFBC is a member of the Fellowship Baptists, a ministry of about 500 churches, a fellowship of churches of like faith and practice across Canada. We believe the Bible is our text for faith and instruction for life, that Jesus Christ is our Saviour, and that a person must be “born again” to come into reconciliation with Almighty God. We are all sinners and are out of favour with God until we trust in the full payment made by Jesus on the cross nearly 2000 years ago. He completed the redemption of mankind that is laid out in Scripture from the beginning in Genesis. When the Lord Jesus said, “It is finished” from the cross (Luke), He was referring to the total work done on our behalf by God for mankind from the first promise of redemption in Genesis 3.15. When we use the words “born again” it is in keeping with John 3 and other passages. Some find this phrase disconcerting and vague. Let me explain further.

Being “born again” in accordance with Scripture denotes spiritual understanding and enlightenment. This is belief. First a person must understand sin. Sin is “missing the mark,” the mark of perfection or holiness. Who can deny they have missed such a mark? Jesus came to make reconciliation for this imperfection; Jesus is God Himself, the Son of God. We have a temporal life in these bodies but eternity awaits everyone. A person must trust in, believe in, or accept the payment of Jesus as their Saviour for eternal life; the alternate is eternal death. When one makes that decision (trusts, believes, accepts) he or she is born again. At the instant he/she receives Christ as Saviour the Holy Spirit comes in to reside in that person. Changes begin, sins fall away, a new life starts. Viewpoints change, love grows, there is forgiveness of sins.
